Hi my name is Storm Muskett-Yetts.Im originally from South Africa, a land of surf and sunshine. I have been living in beautiful New Zealand for almost 12 years. Basically I am learning to surf…I find the whole process exciting,challenging and at times frustrating -if Im honest. Thats why I approached the ‘Ed’ to see if she was open to having a ‘kook’ column for us greenies that cant decide if we’re naturals or goofies, and look bewildered when the surf shop assistant asks if we want warm or cool wax,(other things come to mind,ouch!).I wanted you,the beginner,to journey along with me to see the reality of what it takes to keep going-and man,if I can do it anyone can! So far, from what Ive learnt personally, there are two things you should have if you really want to surf-(besides a board and leash), you need passion and discipline. Its the passion for the water, for the challenge that keeps you going back for more, but its the discipline or commitment that ensures we’re fit,informed and growing in what we’re doing.
Spend sometime paddling (especially if youve been unfit)and you’ll know exactly what Im talking about.
Discipline also involves keeping a good mental attitude,seriously my fellow beach bunnies,this will help you stay motivated when the going gets tough.Usually politics and surfing wouldnt mix,but Winston Churchill,coined a goodie’never,never,never give-in!’

I hope to add photo’s and will keep you updated on my adventures,in hopes that it will some how encourage you,or at least make you laugh,come on!thats what kooks do best.
