Warner Bros. Consumer Products and action sports event producer, ASA Entertainment, have teamed up to produce the Supergirl Jam, the industry’s only large-scale, all-girls action sports competition. This unique event features more than 100 of the top female action sports athletes in a competition series designed to promote and celebrate female strength, independence and empowerment.

“The Supergirl Jam serves as a platform for the embodiment of female strength and leadership through action sports and a celebration of the iconic Supergirl S-Shield,” said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President of Domestic Licensing and Worldwide Marketing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “We are thrilled to be hosting our third annual event and we applaud the athletes as they inspire young women everywhere with their skill, intelligence, independence and overall passion.”

Surfing will take center stage on August 15 & 16 as the Supergirl Pro Junior contest unfolds in Oceanside, CA. Held in conjunction with the 25th Annual Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club Contest and Beach Festival, the Supergirl Pro Junior will identify and celebrate the emerging stars in women’s surfing when the top 20-and-under female surfers take to the waves in their quest to stand atop the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) North America Pro Junior Series ranks and claim their share of the $15,000 Supergirl Pro Junior prize purse.

Sanctioned as a Grade-4 event on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series, the contest is expected to attract the top young female surfers including defending champion Coco Ho (Oahu, HI), Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA), Carissa Moore (Honolulu, HI), Alana Blanchard (Hanalei, Kauai), Bethany Hamilton (Kauai, HI) and Sage Erickson (Ojai, CA).

“The ASP is thrilled that Supergirl is supporting America’s female junior surfers,” ASP Executive Manager Meg Bernardo said. “Support for up-and-coming competitors on the junior ranks allows them to progress to an established career at an international level and the ASP is looking forward to building a long-term relationship with the Supergirl brand to help facilitate our regional surfer’s global success.”

The Supergirl Jam kicks off Labor Day weekend when, on September 6, the Snowboard Rail Jam and Skateboard Street elements of the Supergirl Jam will hit Venice Beach. Some of the top skaters expected to compete include Vanessa Torres (Anaheim, CA), Elissa Steamer (Fort Myers, FL) and Amy Caron (Huntington Beach, CA). The Supergirl Jam will also feature a demo by some of the world’s best inline skaters competing for a $2,000 prize for best trick.

Just steps away from ‘muscle beach,’ the snowboarders will take on the challenge of conquering a massive snow mountain with more than 80,000 pounds of snow on the beach (Yes, it will snow on the beach!) in the coolest rail-jam competition of the year. Top female snowboarders are set to compete including Supergirl Ambassador Chanelle Sladics (Newport Beach, CA) and Raewyn Reid (Calgary, Alberta).

To support the amateur skateboarding community, Woodward West, North America’s leading action sports camp, will host the Supergirl Pro-Am Jam Skateboard Street competition on August 19. The top female amateur skater will advance into the pro skateboarding contest at the Supergirl Jam in Venice Beach two weeks later over Labor Day weekend.

Supporting the progression of females in action sports and infusing the industry with new talent is the basis for both the Supergirl Jam and Woodward West.

“ASA Entertainment creates action sports events all around the world and we are very excited to bring the Supergirl Jam back again as an even more entertaining competition series,” said ASA Entertainment CEO Rick Bratman, producer of the Supergirl Jam. “With great partners like the ASP and Woodward, we are able to further our goal of inspiring girls. We are really proud to help promote these amazing athletes and be a part of the incredible progression in female action sports.”

The Supergirl Jam is represented by a Host Committee of four well-known “actionistas” who embody the strength and confidence of a Supergirl and will act as spokespersons for the event. The 2009 Host Committee consists of 2008 Supergirl Jam Skateboard Street Champion, Lauren Perkins (Huntington Beach, CA.), world-class snowboarder, Chanelle Sladics (Newport Beach, CA), 7-time X Games Gold Medalist, Fabiola da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and surfing sensation, Kassia Meador (Oceanside, CA). The event at all three venues is free for spectators to attend and expects to generate more than 100,000 fans. The competition will also be televised on several networks this fall, including CBS Sports, FUEL TV and Fox Sports Net.
